Journaling Challenge

As we settle into our second week of self-quarantine, I want to begin to address our health on multiple levels.  I will be the first to say that I have struggled quite a bit emotionally this past week… more than I would have expected or wanted to acknowledge.  The stress levels are high on so many levels… and we need to focus on what we can control.  We are going to have good days, and days that are more challenging.  I am encouraging you to make a commitment to taking time daily to process your emotions and set intentions for your day.

Your challenge today is join me in daily journaling. I want this to be hand-written (we are on our computer enough right now!!) and I want to you to block out 15-30 minutes to write, to share your heart, to share you struggles, your emotions, and what you are grateful for. I will provide prompts that I would like to you to follow daily with the intention to create focus in our journaling! I am also asking you to address how you will stay connected to those who you love.  I want you prioritize taking time in your day to connect with the outside world.  This is when you will pick up your phone and connect with friends and family. Texting is not connecting! This is also a great way to prioritize checking in on your friends who you know may be struggling, who live alone, etc. Lastly, I also want you to plan how you will be active and release endorphins. Make a plan, set a time, and do it.  Are you ready to RISE UP?

I would love to share this article, which is one of many that outlines the mental health benefits of journaling.  Feel free to read this article to understand a bit more where this challenge is coming from! https://positivepsychology.com/benefits-of-journaling/ This is one of my favorite quotes from the article:

"Whether you’re keeping a journal or writing as a meditation, it’s the same thing. What’s important is you’re having a relationship with your mind."

Natalie Goldberg

What I also love about this idea is that it is a great way for us to look back on these hard times in 1 year, 10 years, 20 years.  This pandemic will be in our children and grandchildren’s textbooks and our personal account of how we dealt with it could be extremely powerful!

Need a little incentive?  Mountain Fit is offering prizes for those who complete this challenge! Can you write daily from today until we re-open our doors?  Post a picture of your first journal below. I don’t want to be able to see what you wrote, just show me the top of your page with the date- to show you did it!
