GLP-1 Medications:
A Comprehensive Introduction

What Are GLP-1s and How Do They Work?
Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are medications that mimic a naturally occurring hormone produced in the gut. This hormone plays a role in pathways related to blood sugar regulation, appetite signaling, and metabolic function.

GLP-1 medications work through several mechanisms:
-
They interact with pathways involved in insulin response and blood sugar balance
-
They influence gastric emptying, which may impact feelings of fullness
-
They act on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation and satiety

In simple terms, GLP-1 medications work with your body’s natural systems and are used within clinician-directed programs to support metabolic health and weight management. Individual experiences may vary.

GLP-1s: A Tool in Your Health Toolbox
It’s important to view GLP-1 medications as one component of a comprehensive health strategy. They are not a replacement for consistent movement, balanced nutrition, and recovery—but may serve as a supportive tool when used as part of a structured, clinician-directed program.
How It Works

Getting started with a GLP-1 program at Steamboat Fit is personalized, structured, and clinician-directed every step of the way.

1. Initial Consultation with a Physician
Every client begins with a consultation with a licensed physician through our partnership with Anazao MD. This ensures your program is appropriate for your individual needs and goals before getting started.

2. Comprehensive Lab Panel
An extensive lab panel is required prior to starting. This allows the medical team to evaluate key markers related to your health and determine the most appropriate, individualized approach.

3. Personalized, Clinician-Directed Plan
If appropriate, your program is developed based on your goals, health history, and lab results. All medical decisions—including prescriptions and dosing—are managed by the physician team.

4. Integration with Training & Nutrition
Your program is designed to work alongside your fitness routine, nutrition, and recovery strategies—so everything is aligned and working together to support your overall health.

5. Ongoing Coaching & Medical Oversight
You’ll receive regular check-ins and coaching through Steamboat Fit, while your physician continues to monitor your program. Adjustments are made as appropriate under medical direction.
Why Steamboat Fit Created This Program

At Steamboat Fit, we believe that health, longevity, exercise, and movement are the foundation of an active, fulfilling life. Over the past year, we’ve worked in collaboration with local physicians to better understand GLP-1 medications—their considerations, potential benefits, and how they can be thoughtfully integrated into a comprehensive health plan.

What we’ve seen is that GLP-1s can be a valuable tool for some individuals—particularly those looking for additional support with metabolic health and weight management, even when they’ve been consistent with exercise and nutrition.

This program is not a quick fix. It’s designed for individuals looking for a structured, clinician-directed approach to support their health goals, with an added layer of medical guidance.
We’re proud to offer this program in partnership with local physicians. These providers manage all medical aspects, including prescriptions and lab work, while Steamboat Fit provides ongoing coaching, accountability, and lifestyle support. Your regular check-ins with our health coach align with your physician’s oversight, creating a collaborative and comprehensive approach.

We’ve carefully selected physicians who share our values—those who prioritize individualized care, thorough evaluation, and ongoing monitoring. Together, we’re here to support your long-term health and well-being.
Health Benefits Beyond Weight Management

While GLP-1 medications are commonly used within weight management programs, research is also exploring their role in broader aspects of metabolic and overall health.
Emerging research is exploring how GLP-1–based medications may be involved in pathways related to:
-
Cardiometabolic health
-
Neurological function and cognitive health
-
Kidney function
-
Inflammation and immune system signaling

These areas continue to be studied, and GLP-1 medications are used within clinician-directed programs based on individual needs and medical guidance.

Addressing Common Concerns About Side Effects
You may have heard about potential side effects of GLP-1 medications, such as nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort. These effects are commonly discussed and can vary from person to person.

Our approach, in collaboration with our physician team, is to begin with a lower starting dose and gradually adjust over time as appropriate. This individualized, clinician-directed strategy is designed to support tolerability and help you feel more comfortable throughout your program.
